Canon for Administration

Giles Williams

Giles Williams

The appointment of Giles Williams fulfiled a long-standing goal on the part of the Cathedral’s leadership to increase staff support for management of the Cathedral’s increasingly complex administration and operations by creating a new full-time position.

In this role, Canon Williams serves as senior associate to the Dean, along with the Reverend Elizabeth Hendrick, the Cathedral’s Canon Pastor.

As a lay canon, Giles provides oversight for the administrative staff and for daily parish operations. In addition, he supports a number of Cathedral ministries including the Capital Projects Steering Group and the Finance Committee among others.

A native of the United Kingdom, Giles received his secondary education at Ysgol Rhiwabon, Ruabon, Wrexham in Wales and earned a BA with honors in French, Economics and Politics from Kingston University, London. He has also studied at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Grenoble and with the University of Cambridge. In 2009 he received the MA degree from the University of London Institute in Paris with a concentration in Parisian history and culture.

From 2002-2008, he was the national sales manager for Allen Organ Studios UK Ltd and from 1996-2002 was Insurance Manager for Enterprise Rent A Car (UK), London. He is fluent in both spoken and written French.

A lifelong Anglican, Giles was raised in a clergy family that nurtured his love of music (he’s an accomplished organist) and his love for the Church. Giles and Victoria (Vicky) Williams are active members of the American Cathedral and they have two young sons, Owen and Harri, both of whom were born in Paris.
