Dominique McCormick
Dominique McCormick was appointed Assistant Director of Music in September 2011. She first joined the American Cathedral as a staff singer in 2008. She leads the second sopranos and often sings as a soloist for special services, weddings and funerals. In her role as part-time Assistant Director of Music, Dominique assists the Director in all aspects of the Cathedral’s music program.
A native of Massapequa, New York, Dominique received her Bachelor’s in voice and piano at the Eastman School of Music, and a Masters in voice and literature from the Aaron Copland School of Music. She spent five years as the Assistant Music Director at Saint Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church on Long Island where her duties included principle cantor, leading the youth rock mass, and conducting the children’s choirs. Deciding to further her studies and professional career in France, Dominique attended the Conservatory of Music in Boulogne-Billancourt where she received in 2007 a diploma of “Perfectionnement” in voice, and the first prize of Musical Analysis with unanimous favor from the jury. She has won many awards, such as first prize in the Marseille International Operetta Competition, winner of the National Youth Council singing award, and finalist in the the National Metropolitan Opera regional competition.
Apart from her duties at the American Cathedral, Dominique is the Chef de Technique Vocale for the Choeur Regional Vittoria d’Ile de France under the direction of Michel Piquemal. She also sings as a soloist for numerous ensembles such as the Orchestre National du Pays de la Loire under the direction of John Axelrod, and the Paris Choral Society under the direction of Zachary Ullery. She has equal experience in opera, operetta and musical theater.
Perhaps Dominique’s most important attachments to the American Cathedral are Charles Sanders, who sings tenor in the Cathedral choir, and their son Michael, who was baptized there in 2010.
