Maison des Tilleuls
One of the casualties of the November 2005 riots in the Paris suburbs was the community center in a housing complex near Le Bourget airport, but out of that violence has come a rebirth. After the center was burned and rebuilt, a corporation donated a dozen computers to help residents learn basic skills. But who would do the teaching? The Cathedral stepped in. Every Saturday, in morning and afternoon sessions, a handful of volunteers guide adults who have never seen a keyboard set up email addresses, navigate the Web and create documents in Word. The sessions are oversubscribed as these people from immigrant and low-income backgrounds try to improve their knowledge base.
