Acolytes
Acolytes assist the clergy in the leadership of worship at the weekly 11:00 Eucharist, on feast days, and at other special services. Anyone over the age of 8 is welcome; both adults and youth are invited to serve at the altar. The only requirement is a willingness to learn and to be available on Sundays and special occasions. Training and practice sessions are conducted several times during the year. Acolyte schedules are mailed in advance and also posted in the sacristy.

Adult Education
The Education Committee, the clergy, the St. Anne's Guild, and the Junior Guild all offer many opportunities throughout the year for adults to gather for learning, dialogue, and discussion in a variety of settings. The Sunday Forum is a venue for hearing presentations on a wide range of subjects, from the liturgy to art to religious history. Forum speakers frequently serve as catalysts for lively and provocative discussion and questions. The Sunday Forum series meets from 9:45 to 10:45 am on most Sundays during the school year. The Lenten series combine a talk and discussion with a simple soup meal. On Thursdays during the school year, 10:00-12:30 pm, Ginger Strickland, seminary graduate, leads a Bible study class. Tuesday evenings an independent Bible study series meets with Bill Tompson, 7.30 – 9.00pm in the library.

Alcoholics Anonymous
AA groups meet in the crypt of the Cathedral each weekday from noon to 1:00 or 1:30 pm, depending on the day. All are welcome.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild's quiet, servant ministry exists to insure that our worship space and our liturgies are appropriate. They see to it that the altar linens are spotless, the silver shining, and the candles in good order. They lay out the sacred vessels for the service and care for the Sacristy. The Altar Guild works directly with the Dean and other cathedral clergy, and members of the Guild are appointed by Dean. The members are communicants of the parish and are on duty about once a month. Many Altar Guild members find the work spiritually enriching in profound ways.

Annual Pledge
Pledging is a basic responsibility of all members of the Cathedral parish. In order that the vestry can shape a realistic budget each year, an appeal letter is sent out in early autumn asking that each member or family pledge (that is, promise) to contribute some stated amount to the Cathedral in the upcoming year. A pledge can be made at any time, and may be paid (in full or in parts) anytime before the end of the year for which it has been made. The Stewardship Committee's Annual Appeal Sub-Committee organizes the annual pledge appeal.

Baptism
Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which the Christian community welcomes new members into the Household of God. Infants, children, and adults are baptized during services on specific Sundays of the year and at the Easter Vigil. Baptisms are scheduled on the following Sundays: The First Sunday after the Epiphany (early January), the Easter Vigil (evening of Easter Eve), the Second Sunday of Easter (first Sunday after Easter Sunday), Pentecost Sunday, All Saints Sunday. Private baptisms are generally not permitted except in unique pastoral circumstances. On the day before public baptism, parents and godparents (sponsors) are expected to participate in a two-hour Baptism preparation led by Cathedral clergy. Parents seeking Baptism for their children must ordinarily be pledging members of the Cathedral who are actively committed to supporting the ministry of the Cathedral, worshipping regularly, and participating as deeply as possible in the life of the Cathedral. Contact: To discuss baptism further, please speak with a member of the clergy staff. To schedule a baptism, contact Margaret Harrison
Bible Study
The Education Committee and the clergy of the Cathedral provide opportunities for Bible study and theological retreats and reflection at various times throughout the year. Anyone interested in Bible study opportunities is encouraged to speak with the clergy or contact the Education Committee. On Thursdays during the school year, 10:00 am-12:30 in the library, Ginger Strickland leads courses from the Kerygma study series. An evening series, led by William Tompson, meets most Tuesday evenings, 7:30-9:00 pm, in the library.

Budget
Each year the Cathedral Treasurer, in close collaboration with the Dean and the Finance Committee, prepares a budget for approval by the vestry to guide spending. In the fall the chairs of the various organizations within the Cathedral are asked to submit requests for the following year. The Cathedral Vestry normally approves the budget for the coming year by the end of December.

Children's Introduction to Music
“Intro to Music” is a basic music education class open to all children ages 5-7. Children are exposed to basic elements of music as set forth by historic music educators Carl Orff and Zoltan Kodaly. Through the use of songs and song-games, the children develop a sense of steady rhythm, matching pitch, and movement. Children learn to recognize and respond to differences of pitch and rhythm both aurally and through musical notation…and they also find time to have some fun singing! At the end of the class, children are ready to sing with the big kids! Questions? Contact Asst. Cathedral Musician Zachary Ullery at music2@americancathedral.org or 01 53 23 84 01.
Class Time & Place: Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. in the parish hall.
Cathedral Children’s Choir
The Cathedral Children’s Choir is open to all children ages 8 to 13 who like to sing and who can commit to our weekly rehearsal schedule. Building on the music education received in the Cathedral’s “Intro to Music” class, the Children’s Choir teaches children vocal production, music theory, sight-singing, and elements of music history and serves the Cathedral community by providing beautiful singing during Sunday worship. Singing in harmony is introduced through a repertoire from across the centuries, and occasionally includes four-part music sung with adult choir. Using the Royal School of Church Music training program, “choristers” (as the members of the Children’s Choir are called) are taught leadership, teamwork, self-discipline, and musical skills that last a lifetime. Boys and Girls rehearse separately but typically join together in singing on Sunday morning once a month and on special occasions. To schedule an informal audition at any time (simply to help assess your child’s musical background and provide any “catch-up” work) contact Asst. Cathedral Musician Zachary Ullery at music2@americancathedral.org or 01 53 23 84 01.
Rehearsal Time & Place: Boys from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays in the parish hall.
Girls from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the parish hall.
Cathedral Youth Choir
The Cathedral Youth Choir is an auditioned group of singers ages 14-18 that serves as the primary musical offering for the monthly “Youth Mass”, which takes place at 6 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of each month. The group rehearses from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and requires a strong sense of commitment from those involved. Focusing largely on a cappella sacred music, the youth choir sings music from many styles, periods, and traditions including world music and American “roots” music, and will prepare teens for different types of ensemble singing in their adult lives. To schedule an audition or to pose questions, contact Asst. Cathedral Musician Zachary Ullery at music2@americancathedral.org or 01 53 23 84 01.
Rehearsal Time & Place: 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays in the parish hall.

During the school term, Sunday school classes for children aged 3 to 11+ begin at 10:45 on Sunday mornings (no Sunday School during school vacations). The younger classes (3- to 6-year-olds) stay in Sunday School for the complete service and parents should pick them up directly following the end of the service – there is no Sunday School during the coffee hour. For the 7- to 8-year-old class and older, the children rejoin their parents in church at the offertory. The classes are taught by volunteers from the congregation, two or more adults per class in rotation, and follow a curriculum authorized by the Episcopal Church. Children may join the classes at any time during the year. (Also see Journey to Adulthood for young people aged 11-13)

Stewardship
All that we have is a gift of an extravagantly generous God. We are called to be good stewards of all that God has given us in this life. In thanksgiving for the blessings that God has bestowed upon us, we are called to return a portion of our time, talent and treasure to the Church for the work of love in a hurting world. In financial terms, all parishioners are encouraged to give a percentage of income in the form of a pledge to the Cathedral annually. The biblical tithe (10%) serves as a guide and touchstone in the journey toward proportionate giving. The Stewardship Committee is the coordinating group for the Annual Pledge Appeal, Development, and Friends of the American Cathedral Committees.

Youth Ministry
The youth ministry of the American Cathedral uses the Journey to Adulthood program. In January 2007, we began the first level of the course, for youth in grades 6 through 8, called Rite-13, which focuses on celebrating the individuality of each young person and their creative potential. The program helps youth explore the many facets of adolescence and offers a chance to discover how faith can guide and shape the journey to adulthood. We began the next level of the program, called J2A (for 9th and 10th graders) in the fall of 2008. Rite-13 meets every Sunday
(except during school vacations) from 12:30 to 1:30, and J2A on
Sundays 4:30 to 5:30 pm, in the library. We also have monthly evening activities which all teens are welcome to attend.
