MISSION AND OUTREACH

The Mission and Outreach (M&O) Committee offers parishioners the opportunity to respond personally to Jesus Christ's command to care for those in need through hands-on service and/or material and financial support. The Cathedral allocates 10% of its previous year's plate and pledge income (the Biblical tithe) to mission and outreach.  The Committee uses the United Nations Millennium Development Goals as a template for its grant giving.  In each grant the committee looks for multiple opportunities for personal involvement, to appeal to a wide range of skills and interests amongst parishioners.

The vestry at its December meeting approved funding requests for the following three projects which are consistent with the UN Millennium Development Goals.

  • 4,310 euros to assist the Bonne Mine orphanage, which cares for abandoned children in Bulgaria, to finance a new program to prepare orphans, 16-18 years old, to make the transition from institutional to independent li f e.
  • 10,000 dollars to fund scholarships for students at the Arab Evangelical Episcopal School in Ramallah on the West Bank.
  • 7,000 dollars to help a village in Mali -- and in particular women residents -- acquire and operate a multifunctional platform that will supply mechanical and electrical energy for revenue-producing activities.
